Default What is this?

Can someone tell me the purpose of the fitting on the upper muffler on an 00 FLSTC. I see it in the service manual but they don’t mention it’s purpose, there is an asbestos gasket in it. Oxygen sensor or emission stuff? My wife thinks it’s a seat warmer 😊
Had to remove it to get my new rotor on.

I still don’t get it’s purpose....can you tell me a little more about the crossover. It connects to the tube that the muffler fastens to.

That tube is the crossover pipe, that connects the 2 exhaust pipes together to aid in scavenging, and lowering reversion. It falls between a 2 into 1 system, and a true dual/2 into 2 system.

Cheers!

Thanks Clammy I think I get it now. Sounds like it kinda equalizes pressure in the two pipes

Without that, you would lose scavenging resulting in loss of power. Especially low end. That hidden crossover replaced the ugly one that use to connect the 2 head pipes under the intake.
