Going in for paint on Tuesday...
People will laugh, but I take off my tanks once a year, to really clean up the frame and the rocker covers.....!
When you're retired, and working on my bikes is a hobby, you have time for that kind of crap...
OP... can't wait to see that red/creme combo... as several have said, I can't picture it... but dying to see the result...
I know this wasn't intended for me, but I've had the tank off my '03 probably 6 or 7 times over the years since I bought it new....
FWIW.... it's not a hard thing to do....
To remove the tank, I put fuel line clamps on the crossover hose as close to the nipples on each side as possible... I then cut the hose between the clamps... A very small amount of fuel comes out, but it it easily absorbed by a rag...
After removing the tank, I put pieces of fuel hose over the ends of the cut crossover hose and then get all the residual gas out of the tank..
On my carb bike I first drain the tank via the petcock... and then get the residual gas out the cut crossover hose just like the EFI tank is drained.
After remounting the empty tank, I put a new section of crossover hose on the tank. I believe it's a 7" piece of fuel line...
Not really that big of deal.... I actually purchased a quick disconnect for the fuel line, but I didn't like the way it looked, changed the routing/length of the fuel line, and figured it wasn't really worth it.... I never put it on the bike.
Of course, after doing that numerous times, the tanks without a crossover hose like on my bagger, don't need to be drained and are super easy to remove, like a 15 minute job....!
