Default Crash bar recommendations -04’Softail

Hello. I’ve graduated from a sportster and I am finding my Softail a little heavier, not to mention it’s got lots more goodies on it I’d like to protect. Besides I find crash bars add character to a bike. Especially an older one.

any crash bar recommendations?

anyone with pics, please share.

Since you asked......

I'm a fan of engine guards on FL style bikes, especially the basic, old school look.... I never liked the looks of the "mustache" guards with the built in foot rest area...

I put one on, then took it off, then put it back on my 2003 Heritage.... I'm glad I liked the way it looked... it paid off several years after I put it on the last time...

About 5 years ago, a lady hit me broadside... it was a slow speed collison... just basically knocked my bike over, hard, onto it's side... the impact kind of popped me into the air off the seat and I landed on the side of the bike...

The engine guard got bent, scratched, and had to be replaced... the collision broke the windshield, tweaked the spot lamp bracket, and scratched a grip/front brake lever...

But.... the engine guard totally protected the paint on the front fender and the gas tank..... Not one scratch to the paint.... the saddlebag got a small abrasion to the leather and protected the rear fender.....

Remarkable really... good thing too, because that bike has the 100th anniversary paint job with the special strips... sure glad I didn't have to deal with trying to fix any of that!!

Depending on model Softail, I either like a Genuine HD or a Cobra
