If it was not totaled then different game. It could be cleaned up and sold. Depending how good a job you do 4-.5000. But it would need to be cleaned up and running well. I would not put a dime in until you are sure she has a clean title.
This was my first thought. I'd check on a title before I did anything else. If there's not title, it's a whoooooole different ballgame.

The value per Black Book Powersports:
Year: 2005
Make: Harley-Davidson
Model: FLSTCI Heritage Classic
Model Type: Cruiser
Displacement: 1450
Cylinders: 2
VIN: 5HD1BWB15
Finance Advance: $4,635
MSRP: $17,595
Avg Retail: $5,580
Auction Wholesale $4,610
Clean Trade: $4,400
Fair Trade: $3,790

IMHO......

In good shape with up to date maintenance (including the cam tensioner upgrade), it may bring $5,500.... But it's a buyers market and there are a lot of good, low mileage, well kept bikes on the market... I think for a quick sell, you'd need to take $5,000 or a little less.... IF it was in good condition and well maintained... this one IS NOT...

If your suspicions are correct, and it has a salvage title... knock off at least half that amount....

Now add that you have no idea on maintenance, it was "rode hard & put away wet", and it probably needs everything from tires (out dated if not worn), all new engine fluids, filters, brake fluid flush, and quite frankly looks to be in poor condition from the pics.... you should take the first offer @/over $1,500 and sell it "as is, history unknown".....

Sorry about your loss, but that bike could be a major headache or possibly a decent old rider..... but no one will ever know unless they are willing to gamble and are not afraid to get their hands dirty, real dirty...

Good luck with your decision...

Can not say this enough. Until a title clean or branded is in her hands and she can legally transfer it save your self a lot of problems and do not put a dime in it until the title /Ownership is 100% settled by law.

I had a friend pull the report. It shows as "insurance loss" It has a record of a rear end accident from 2012 as well. Not sure how an insurance loss compares to a rebuild/salvage title. Or is that issue if this bike is re-titled again?

You need the paperwork for the motorcycle, without it you do not own it. Get a title, whether it be a salvage title or other. Without a title, the engine & frame are worthless.

I would not even consider purchasing a motorcycle without a clear title. Probably going to cost you some time and effort tracking down the paperwork and getting things straight. Good Luck.

Was that report from the State or was it from some private company. If so it not worth much. Only thing that means anything is from the State. Get the title

Yup, get the title. It should be a salvage title, in that condition with a salvage title I would say the value would be between $2500-$3000.

Everyone, I get the title thing and we are working on it. And no, I do not technically own the bike. My oldest Step-daughter does since she is next of kin and has his death certificate. SHE went there with me to get this bike to try and do something with it. I am just trying to get a value for this thing so I can list it and get it out of my garage.

In Illinois, only a licensed 'rebuilder' can legally buy a salvage titled vehicle, and get a 'rebuilt' title. You can sell it for parts, but the buyer will have just that-a pile of parts, not title-able,and not registerable. You might be able to sell it to someone out of state,if you can find a buyer just dying to ride an '05
