I'm looking at a 2009 Fat Boy for my next bike and found one locally with 30k miles. What kind of maintenance items would a bike with this kind of mileage need?
Years ago I had an FXDL for a year or two, so I don't have a lot of experience with maint on a HD. Thanks in advance for input.
Welcome to the Forum from Colorado.
Although it has hydraulic tensioners, you may want to look at them.
Fork oil.
Brake fluid.
Brake pads.
Tires.
Neck bearings. Check the fall away.
What kind of maintenance records does he have?
If the bike looks neglected and abused, it probably has been.
Welcome to the forum. Where in Ct ? I'm near the UConn main campus. Riding an '09 Fatboy for 2 years & love it. If you like the bike and it's well maintained and priced well, go for it. No major headaches expected. Don't over-pay for a 12 year old bike. Used bike prices are inflated right now, I think they will fall back to realistic values later this year.
Mines a 2012, the only issue Ive had was the voltage regulator. Other than that, its been a great bike.
FWIW.... that was a specific problem with an identified batch of voltage regulators...
It was covered under Service Bulletin #M-1325, about a "product program" to replace the affected units. The product program began on 6/11/12 and lasted until 6/11/14. A product program, unlike a "recall", has a specific time duration where a recall is open ended... The VR date codes of the affected units were in the service bulletin.
have a 98 fat boy even though it doesnt look like one now she did when i got her last yr
but ive done a lot. to it .. next is todds 10 inch strip bars and risers
I'm in Trumbull. Far as the bike, the seller is asking $8500 but NADA says 7900 so he's not far off. What's considered avg annual miles for a bike in New England?
