Default 07 standard fun beginning

I have an 07 standard andI decided on this bike because of its simpleness, cost, and great base for customizing. It has been 3 months and now I have some extra cash to throw at it. I really like the chrome engine kit and I think it would add to my bike a lot. The other things I had in mind was street slammers!

My question is, how hard would it be to put the chrome engine kit on? I have mechanical abilities but lack time. How much would the stealership charge or how long does it take them?

Are these two ideas good for a start to customizing, or would $1k be put to better use on different areas of customizing?

Thanks

I got the chrome engine kit also but I just had the dealer install it, much easier.

Congrats on your '07! You could have the stealership install the chrome for you but they're going to pinch you pretty good for labor...if you're wallet still has$$$ left in itgo ahead and turn the job over to the service dept. but IMO changing the engine/trans covers out for chrome ones isfairly easy (and not TOO time consuming...took mebasically one full day to get 'em all on)...on my '06 I installed chrome primary/points/cam/trans covers myself...really lit up the engine on my "vanilla" Standard...you'll need to drain/replace the primary oil and trans lubewhen youdo those covers but I re-used the original gaskets on all my covers and haven't leaked a drop...my bike still hasthe stock bars (I like 'em...they're comfortable) but if I did swap 'em out the street slammers would be high on my list...right up there with Chubby 501's...

If you are good with a wrench, save the money and do it yourself. You didn't list your location so I don't know what type of climate you live in. But up here in Minnesota, I would do it over the winter to minimize downtime during riding season.

One thing I would like to add; the kit does not come with the inner primary cover. IMO, the chrome inner cover really makes it. It just doesn't look right with only the chrome outer cover.

I've got a set of wild 1 560's, if you're interested. If you check wild 1's web site, you can see what they look like installed on different bikes.

Where abouts are you moving to? I live in the eastern Twin Cities suburbs. I usually buy my parts from St Paul Harley due to the fact that I get 15% off everything through their MVP program. The people there are friendly and I think their customer service is good. I usually do my own work, but have used them for some warranty work and new tires; they did a good job.

The kit was 1000 bucks and they charged me 1250 overall with the installation, it looks great and hasn't lost a drop of oil.
