Hi - I bought a 1997 Heritage Softail Classic that's been sitting for 5 years in a warehouse. It was my friend's bike that passed away 5 years ago and it's still in primo condition but now needs some love to get it running again. His wife decided to sell and I am handy enough to get it back on the road. I think she knows I'll take care of it, too. Well, my friend was the 2nd owner and I don't know if he bought it with auxiliary lights or maybe added them? But, I can't find a switch to turn them on.
So, here's my questions;
If you added auxiliary lights to your FLS where did you put the switch? Did you find it easy to wire? Did you go with Harley's OEM option (which I found on www.h-d.com) or did you rig something decent up? Got any pics?
If the auxiliary lights were OEM and came with the FLSTC, I am curious where you think I should find the switch? I think it should be a special left turn signal switch that momentary toggles both ways, but mine does not have that.
I am pretty sure some FLSTC models don't have auxiliary lights. The reason why I suggest this is because I have been looking for a used Windshield and Harley has different model numbers for the 1997 FLSTC; one windshield is for models without auxiliary lights and another windshield is for FLSTC with auxiliary lights.
Where can I find parts fiche online? I am curious where the auxiliary light switch might be shown for OEM. It's definitely not on my handlebars. The only other possibility is that my handlebar controls are all chromed out...maybe my friend, or the previous owner, replaced the controls and lost the ability to turn those aux lights on and off.
On a great note, I just rebuilt the vacuum on the petcock (found a Honda rebuild kit that worked from Amazon), drained and cleaned the bottom of the carb, and she fired up for me! Woohoo! This thing is LOUD!
FYI - normal operation of aux lights is to turn off when bright lights are on. You can install a simple wiring harness to allow them to stay on with bright lights.
