No, I used a bolt that I could find at the time when I put these new bags on. Couldn't get my hand in there to put it in backwards. Never thought of the dental floss thing mentioned above, Getting the correct studs for it now anyways.
You want maximum clearance under the fender, there is additional flex to the side in turns etc. Nothing wrong with cutting a bolt to match the scenario, the Dremel is you friend.
Look up "base retainer nut", they work really well under the fender. I have used them in the past, tightened down the bolt, marked it, cut to length to be flush with nut and then put it all back together. The flushest install around, great for that extra wide tire. Good luck.
