New Final Drive Belt Too Long!
Have a 1995 FXSTSB Badboy and I've replaced transmission seals and shaft race so inner primary is off of course. Checking final drive belt it appeared to be in good shape but seemed to be "stretched" as only minimal adjustment remained. I thought since I'm this deep in to go ahead and put a new final drive belt on. After waiting over a week for new belt to arrive it finally came and I installed. Well I attempted to adjust and even with the axle all the way back it's just beginning to get where it should be. Bottom line is there will be NO room for any future adjustment. I had ordered it from J&P Cycles: Gates BDL 130 tooth 1.5" wide and per their listing an exact fit for my bike. Belt is marked: BDL.PCC.130.112.USA.299K. OEM parts catalog says part number 40017-94 REAR BELT, 130 T. I've crossed referenced several sites and all "appears" correct. I have stock 32T Front sprocket and stock 65T Rear sprocket. What am I missing? Anyone else have a problem with belts too long? Any help greatly appreciated as I thought I would had the bike back on the road two weeks ago;-(
