2007 Harley Davidson Softail Heritage Classic Missing and running like garbage
The bike ran great at first, then started a cough, then a miss, and backfire, now hard to start and idol.
I tried to check fuel pressure after $160.00 at O'Reilly and fittings are not there for my bike. I will get it done tomorrow.
for now I can hear the fuel pump it's loud. Sounds like its pumping just loud. I also noticed that gas circulation in the tank when switched to run.
I did the WD 40 thing and checked behind the breather for leaks didnt notice any increase in idol.
Anyone who has been through this please help.
Runs like a scalded dog then looses power, misses, coughs, and backfires. 07 Heritage classic.
i checked for loose wires and ground, checked battery, all good.
A bad intake manifold will cause the issues you have have listed... I believe it will run better when you get the manifold gasket sealed...
When you reinstall the intake manifold, remember to loosely install the manifold/ throttle body assembly. Finger tight only on the bolts. Then install the air cleaner backing plate, with head breather bolts, to properly line up and center the intake/ throttle body assembly. Once centered, snug up the intake bolts, remove the air cleaner backing plate if necessary (usually is), to properly torque (final tighten) the intake bolts..
You do all that to make sure that when everything is put back together, it is not under stress.... if the assembly is stressed, it could cause leaks...
This video is on a carb manifold installation, but is the same principle, just slightly different parts, and what I am referring to starts around 2:15 in the video...
While I think the new manifold seals, properly installed, will solve your problem, I am concerned that you can see fuel swirling around the tank when the ignition is on.
The fuel pump should pressurize the lines, shut off, and hold that pressure until the engine is started... Once started it will turn back on..... The early MM EFI has fuel returning to the tank, but not the Delphi EFI like in your bike. There has been an issue, as the twin cams get older, where a pinhole develops in the fuel line from the fuel pump to the fuel filter, or from the fuel filter to the fitting/check valve in the tank.... When the tank level gets low, you can see fuel squirting across the inside of the tank...
That may be something you need to check out too...
Good luck with your repair...
