Default Lowering Softail questions

I'm planning on running 21/16 wheels on my 1997 heritage classic.

I bought a burly front and rear lowering kit for it.

Burly lowering kit

I believe it is adjustable. I'm a big guy and I dont want to rub my tires. Trying to figure out how much I should drop it front and rear?

And also I think I need fender risers for a 21 up front, right?

Thanks guys

IMO, I wouldn't drop it at all. Even at 170 lbs and dropped an inch I was bottoming out on my Night Train.

Dropped the rear on my 94’ Softail with adjustable air shocks. As long as I have an inch above center of the tire and 3/4” of rebound I'm good. And I weigh in at 280.

Thanks guys. I am planning on switching to heavy weight fork oil up front to see if that will help some.

Hopefully the burly kit will stiffen the rear. I'm ok with sacrificing ride quality.

I see some guys saying they dropped 2 inches front and back and they aren't having issues. It's hard to know what to do.

Also, can the preload be adjusted on the rear of my 97 to make it stiffer?

Do you want to lower it or stiffen it? There's a difference in ride quality.

Lower it as much as I can. I just thought the stiffer I can get it the less it will compress and possibly rub.

If you stiffen it you'll feel every bump straight up your spine. I tried going that route first.
Then went to an air ride. I'm using a Shotgun Shock. There are others though, pricy but worth every penny. IMO

I don't have any "before" pictures. But I was able to look right over the tire between the fender before.

I went from this, and this is lowered with the lowering shock extensions. It was a terrible ride

To this

Looks great, how much was it lowered before the air ride?
