Default Back to looking & have more ???

Ok, since I'm not getting the 07 heritage I thought I was, (biioootch), sorry about that, still bitter. Anyway, I'm back to searching for a bike. I'm gonna have to buy used, & I'm pretty stuck on either a fatboy, heritage, or a springer classic. I really don't know much about any of them. No place around here to test ride one either. What is the difference, if any, in the ride, maintanance, etc. in the heritage custom, fatboy,& the springer classic. Does the springer set as low,(seat height), as the heritage. I'm 5'7" on my tall days. I know where there is a beautiful 2000 springer classic with 9k miles for $12,000,(asking price), & a very sharp yellow 2004 heritage with 27,400 miles for $13,000-$13,500,(ebay). I have no clue which would be the best one,(value & performance, comfort,& so on),to pursue. Both of these bikes are within a 150 miles from my house, so I could easily take a road trip to look at them in person. This time I'll have a pen & paper, & cash in hand. If anyone could enlighten me on some of these issues I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Frank
P.S. I did attach a pic of the springer on one of my posts under the thread I started titled "I'm so confused"

Lots of 07' leftovers at the Dealers + most dealers are willing to deal right now....
Just a reminder - if you buy the Springer - the springer front end always needs to be maintained properly. Buy what you want, the are both nice...

Could somebody elaborate on the maintainanceof a springer frontend. I am fairly mechanically inclined, just would like to know what needs to be maintained. Thanks

I have no idea where you are located. Check HD Trader.com and search by model and state. You'll find a lot of chromed out beauties that people want way too much $$ for. You'll also see the list of prices from the highest on down. I found an 03 Fatboy anniversary, gold key package, with 2400 mi., and theylet it gofor12k. Not bragging, just sayin, there is a lot of difference in what they ask and what they will take. You should be able to get a nice low mi. bike in the 12-13 k range, as long as it doesen't have thousands of $$ in mods or dress up.

If you are in the Northeast, you are prolly gonna start seeing some pretty good deals starting about now into Fall/Winter.

BTW: I really dig my Springer Classic.

I'm in S.E. Nebraska. I know I'm gonna find a bike & the 12-13k is in the price range I'm looking for. What I'd like to hear is the character differences between a Heritage custom or a Fatboy compared to a Springer classic. I keep hearing that they all have a smooth ride, but what I'm looking for is why youchose your heritage custom or fat boy over the springer,or visa versa. Was it the ride, ease of maintainence,(please explain the maintainence part), seat height, (I'm vertically challenged), etc. I really like the looks of the springer classic, (old school), but I know nothing about them. Any input would suuure be appreciated. Tanks

I chose the Springer Classic over a Fatboy because I really dug the "old school" styling of the springer... I like the front end, the pipes out both sides... its super low to the ground (I am 5'10", 30" inseam) Legsbent quite a bitwhen stopped at alight. To each their own, you dig what you dig. I was drawn to the Springer cause you dont see as many... seems like around here you will see 25 Fatboys for 1 Springer. Oh and as for the extra maintainance: Apparantly its minor at best. Adjustments from time to time, more of a safety check thing as I understand it... I look at it this way... guys with Fork Oil gotta check it once in a while..

From what I've been told, and in my limited experience have felt, anything in the Softail family is a smooth ride. After that it's a matter of style. I can't speak to the maint. issues in the springer, but I'd hate to have to polish all them twisty springs. LOL! The right one will make itself known to you when you see it. Don't sweat the details.

Good Luck, Ride Safe.
