LO RNG code
So I’m not very privy when it comes to motorcycle maintenance but I’m learning so please bear with me. But anyways I have a 2016 Softail Slim and just recently it threw LO RNG at me and my gas gauge went all the way to empty even though I had gas in the tank. Where is a good place to start to try and fix this issue? Btw I don’t have a warranty of any sort for it.

I'm in the same boat. I've looked and looked and came up with nothing. I hope someone here has an answer. Mine is intermittent. When I fire the bike up - all it well. 15 minutes later the gauge goes to empty - pegged, and I get that LO RNG as well as the idiot light.

Ive been doing the same thing since this started. I was going to take it to the dealership to get it fixed but out of the gate the man was talking hundreds of dollars just to diagnose and I said **** that. Hopefully someone here has some knowledge on how to fix this.

I just got back from the dealership about this and some plugs I wasn't familiar with.
The parts guy said straight away that it's the fuel sending unit. Like he'd heard it a couple times before. Good news-ish: $75 bucks. Bad news-ish: it's inside the tank.
Basically its like the float in your toilet. I took apart the tank on my police special and wasn't all that complicated. I think this is doable...if ya got the 75 bucks.

It's not that hard to change, but it is time consuming, and depending on the year, there is a trick to getting the float out easily.......
First..... You may try some Techron in a couple tanks of gas....
There is a mechanism in the float that is submerged in fuel... as it moves, the impedance changes, and the gauge measures/reacts to that change.. It's like a rheostat...
In some cars, corrosion can build up on that mechanism, causing erratic readings. In some cases, if you put a few bottles of your favorite fuel treatment through the fuel tank, it can clean up that corrosion and the gauge will start working as it should...
That was a frequent problem and the Techron additive was the popular fix on the Corvette Forum, when I used to read that about 10 years ago, back when I had my vette...

Exactly what Mr. Hattitude stated. Corrosion and residue build-up on the slide contact and stops or impedes the electrical resistance reading. I have cleaned the slide contacts with an eraser in other vehicles to correct the problem.
While you're in there - a good time to replace the fuel lines also.

I've gotten this code when starting the bike with a low battery and it bare!y turns over but fires up. Charge the battery and start it and it doesn't apoear.
More recently I had it come on intermittently along with a flashing low fuel light when a bulb in a front running light/directional had a short. It's all on the same circuit.
Wierd thing is I uninstalled/reinstalled the same bulb and the issue disappeared. I think the socket itself was turned too hard when replacing a bad bulb initially causing the wires to short.

2017 FXDB. About 10k miles.
Issue: LO Range on dash and flashing on LED fuel light (Tank is full)
-Recent upgrades went from FXDB rear fender to FXDL full fender and light and LED flush mount fuel gauge.
And No issues
-Fuel level works (resistance check)
-Not a bad ground
-New led flush mount also resistance checked
-Fuel pressure holds above 55psi
-New quantum pump and regulator
-All fuel wires not rusted or have any corrosion (Also no cuts and pinches)
-Not a dead or bad battery
-No bad fuses
What am I missing?
Possibly a bad Speedo with bad or false reading?
