i was talking to a LD today about throwing the engine/tranny blackout parts froma night train on to a custom or maybe other ST model, but he was telling me they don't sell a kit like they do for the chrome parts. where is the best place to get these? ebay? Or would it be cheaper to just powder coat the chrom (seems like a waste of good chrome parts)? how hard is the changeout? the dealer made it seem like it is kind of labor-intensive..
There is an Enamel Spray paint that is made for engines and pipes to withstand the heat. I accidently scratched the rocker covers on my trains engine when I removed the tank. I used the Low gloss enamel to touch it up and u can;t tell the diference. I mean I only did part of the top not the whole piece and still there isnt a difference. I say poweder coat what u want and spray paint the rest. thats what I would do. A few layers should do the trick. Its made for the heat. I was just so happy I was able to fix it up. By the way I did try on a piece of metal first to see what it would look like once dry. Compared them and Bamm I went for it. Glad I did. Its the paint can u can get at any auto parts ill try and post the name and pics.
i am in the process of making the purchase on an 07 custom. the reason i am spending more and not getting the std. is because of the black/chrome engine and the blacked out engine body on the custom. i really like the blacked out look over the chrome.

Wouldn't it be easyer to buy a night train and make it look like a custom?
u can get a set of tins and a "sofa" seat with a sissy bar from a custom off ebay. All u would need then is mini apes. Ive been looking to do that myself. I got the apes the sissy bar. Just need the seat and some black pearl tins and im set!!!!!!lol.
i don't know which way is cheaper. the night train's bars and seat would have to go right away, therefore racking up a good sized service cost. with the custom I can throw the balcked out parts on there for less that the price of the bars/seat...at least I figured it would be less. Maybe not. I guess that is something I should find out.
