Default Real wheel removal on 07 ?

Anyone pulled the rear wheel off an 07 softail yet?

My rear tire is shot, got my new tire today and need to ****** the wheel off the bike and have my new tire mounted. Looks like most any other rear wheel pull, jack bike up, losen the belt tenisoners, remove the axle nut, slide the axle out, drop wheel off.

Any gotchas? Better to remove the belt guard and maybe the brake pads to make it eaiser?

If you still had the stock pipes on it you would have to pull off one of the mufflers. But I see you have the V&H Big Radius, so that shouldn't be a problem.
You might want to try pushing back the pads in the brake caliper a little to make it easier to get the rotor back in later. See if you can make a wood wedge to stick between the pads to hold them apart and in place justin case somebody accidetally leans on the brake pedal. If the pistons get too far out you'll have hell to pay getting them back in properly.

Yup, you'll need to remove the belt guard and the brake pads to get the wheel off. I was able to get it off without touching the axle adjusters. It's pretty straightforward.

1. Belt guard
2. debris guard
3. axle pin
4. undo the axle nut
5. jack bike up high enough for the wheel to be able to roll out
6. support the rear wheel
7. deal with the brakes.. can remove it, or let it hang.. or such...
8. push tire back a bit and move the belt to the side
9. push axle through giving the tire support

you can find all this in the service manual.. you should buy one. which should be step 1

you will have to deal with the wheel spacers, and becareful of the wheels barring and not damage your rim..
and coat the axle with anti-seize when putting it back together.... etc..

you may or may not have to pull one of the mufflers, I think someone else addressed that. when you re-assemble, throw the axle in from the reverse side so you don't have to mess with the mufflers again. I didn't loosen the belt tensioners on mine, just un did the hardware tapped it out, and did the same upon reassembly....it's not a big deal, helps if you have an extra pair of hands to support the wheel and tire.

Thanks for the input....

I pulled it tonight and I did have to drop the inter brake pad to free it up enough to get the caliper up and over the roter. The caliper was a bitch to get lose from the frame and it's not even bolted to it, it just fits into a slot on the lower swing arm. But it's off and thats the main thing.
