After doing my rear wheel a bunch of times on my rocker with 45k on it, I found that if I take out the spacer on the left side of the rear wheel first, then the ones on the right, it seemed to come of easier, but it is a pain...LOL, especially the brake. I usually have someone help also, which makes it easier to handle the wheel/tire.
I have tried to do it by myself, but it's worth a beer for a buddy to help wrestle the wheel out of there. I have also put some blue painters tape on the edge of the rim to help avoid scratching stuff a few times.
I also left one piece of my belt guard off since it's behind my side bag anyway.
Hope it helps.

so the book is a little unclear. are these the steps?

1. wheel back on
2. snug axle
3. adjust belt
4. final torque axle
5. put brake back on

got it back on very easily. found an easy way to put the rear back on. put the big drive side spacer in and push the wheel in and put on belt. then on left side put the brake bracket on and wiggle the brake side space in between the wheel and bracket. lastly, push the axle side of the brake bracket up so that it is close to the top of the wheel spacer. then you can push in from the back the smallest brake brake spacer. grab the axle and start it in lining everything up as you go. wheel took over an hour to get off and went on in 5 min. that's a great learning curve!
