Default Seat Fit Question

A buddy gave me a seat he had in the garage to try. He was not sure what it fit. It looks alot like a badlander without the Harley Davidson sig on the sides. It has a very small bar & shield on the very back. The bottom is covered with amaterial also. When I put it on my deluxe the tab in front fit and the rear chrome tab is about 1/2" short from lining up with the hole in the fender. It follows the fender right, fits down around frame right. Can't tell if the rear tab is riveted or screwed in due to the material on bottom side. It is like brand new. Thinking it may be the striper model. Any idea what this seat fits? Anyone have a measurement on there badlander seat from the end of the front tab to end of rear tab for a softail 96-06
Not a seat that I want to run all the time, however changing it up once in a while may be fun.
Thanks for any help

I've got a Badlander seat that I bought from a guy off his Nighttrain. I was going to try it on my Heritage, but it has the exact same problem. According to the catalog it should fit all Softails, but like you said, the rear tab isn't long enough. If I pull the seat back enough for the holes to line up, the front tab pulls out of the frame. I'm thinking about just fabricating a new tab for the rear (or HD might make one already?). Keep us posted on what you find out!

Since the rear threaded doodad in the fender is just an insert with a clip to keep it from falling out, it wouldn't be hard to drill the fender and move it to match the seat. A chrome fender bib would cover the old hole(s) and protect the finish if you ever need to strap something down on the fender.

Some seats fit various models & years with alternate tab and/or mounting kits. Check with your P&A cataog or local parts counter - bring the seat.

The rear mounting hole on the Deluxe is 1" further back than most softails. Just put on a longer mounting tab, which you could easily make with nothing more than a drill and a trip to the hardware store for a little piece of steel. You should be good to go with that.

Thanks for the replys. I am going to look into a longer tab, if not make one. Drilling a new hole is nota consideration.
