Question: re Slip-Ons for a Softail Deuce
Looking at a set of Cobra 6000 w 2 inch adjustable baffles for $320. Right ones? Re-tuning required? Better alternatives?
I'd really appreciate any good advice on this.
If you only upgrade one of the following two: air cleaner to high flow from OEM.... OR .... mufflers/exhaust to a higher flowing system, you don't NEED to retune...
If you upgrade both, you should retune....
My experience is that even with an OEM bike, you can benefit with an improved stock tune from a reputable shop.
So anytime I change the airflow to the engine in any way, I also adjust the tune...
As far as your exhaust, I have no experience with the Cobra exhaust products... I will say that even though I ran straight pipes for about 10 years in my youth, they are counter productive for a good running street bike... They're good for wide open throttle drag racing though... You're wise to pick any exhaust other than straight pipes...
Just pick a quality muffler or full exhaust system within your budget, then contact a shop like sponsor FuelMoto, to see what they recommend for the tuning..
If you contact the shop first, you may get a package deal on exhaust. high flow air cleaner, and tuning device.... Then you'd get some better performance AND better sound...
Good luck with your decision and your mod(s)....
Enjoy the bike and welcome back....!
Here's a couple of videos that have that done to them to give an idea of the sound. On an 2005 EFI TC88 you may want to tune it after changing exhaust, it depends on what tune is in there now.
