What cracks me up is the people with yard signs and bumper stickers about watching for motorcylces and guys put the smallest cutest lights they can on. We are are own worse enemy. Myself I want as much light as I can get.
Sounds like you got your problem fixed. Get you some black shrink wrap at Harbor Freight or whatever it's convenient for you for vehicles wiring.
Don't use tape in automotive type use. And solder all connections. Never twist on connections. I don't find self squashed connections very reliable either.
If it's important, I solder them also and I have special tools just for making the crimps.
If it's hidden, since it's thin, I also double shrink wrap. Then packed in Black RTV in the ends. Keeps grim from getting in there and the moisture from making small electric drains to ground if they are close.
