If you mean screw #6 in the below diagram, according to the online parts finder, they are part #4042 M8 x 1.25 x 35 hex button head screw

Thanks Hattitude , yes those are the ones appreciate your reply

I ordered two new HD#4042 bolts for my 08 FSXST they need a 5mm hex socket to remove/install. The ones already on the bike are ok but would like to replace them at some stage as they are showing their age. Does anyone know if I can just remove the currently installed old front axle pinch bolts and axle cap while the bike is on the side stand? if I replace the rear one first tighten then the front one would that be ok?

Thanks for the help

Regards

I don't have a service manual for your year/model, you may want to double check.... but...

I will say that in my 2003 & 2001 Softail and 2016 Dyna factory service manuals... you torque the axle cap screws or nuts (some use screws and some use nuts) AFTER you torque the axle....

Since the axle cap bolts/nuts are the last step to reassembly of the front wheel, you should be good to remove and replace it...

But check for your specific year/model because the front wheels with axle cap nuts just get a torque spec, the ones with axle cap screws get a different torque spec AND have a torquing sequence. The 2001 & 2003 manual say to torque the front axle cap screw first and rear second. The 2016 Dyna says to torque the rear screw first and the front screw second...

Hope this helps...
