Default Front cylinder intermittently dies

Hey all! So my 2000 fxst carb skoot has a stock motor besides some short shots. The front cylinder intermittently dies on me. Sometimes for a few seconds and sometimes longer. If I turn it off for a while it runs well again. But still not solid. I've replaced the ignition, the coil plugs and wires. Also checked the wiring from the ignition to the coil for grounding out. Any suggestions? Thx y'all!

Black bike is givin me troubles...

Sounds like it's going into limp mode... when the motor gets too hot it kills a cylinder so it cools down...although I understood it does that to the back cyl..

FYI.....

A 2000 softail with a carb, does not have the EITMS system (engine idle temperature management system).

I believe it started on 2008 touring bikes and it's a system for EFI bikes only... and you are correct, it cuts off the rear cylinder fuel injector during certain conditions...

Thx for the thoughts but I've had this bike since new, it's carbureted, and it just started doing it recently. So I believe it's something else. Thinking it's an electrical issue because the check engine light comes on when it happens. I've checked/replaced all the other electrical components. I'm gonna see if there's anything in the dash or maybe fusebox that could be the culprit. Thx for the input!

If it threw a check engine light, it should have thrown a code.... have you checked for codes? It is quite a dance on the older twin cams, but there is a procedure in the Electrical Diagnosis Manual.

I'm not an expert on electrical stuff... not even close.... but...

Just curious how you figured out it was the front cylinder cutting out?

If you replaced the ICM (ignition control module), the coil, the wires, and the plugs... it seems you'd have to be dealing with some sort of electrical glitch that shouldn't be restricted to the front cylinder. That could be a dirty or corroded main ignition switch, emergency stop switch, or the wires leading to/from them.

If you are positive it's only the front cylinder cutting out, and the ICM & Coil are good, I'd check the wires/connectors between the coil and the ICM...

Good luck, electrical things drive me crazy, but you have to be persistent to win...

How does that intake work? Kuryakyn Pro Series Hypercharger? I've seen them, don't know much on how they work but I'm running under the assumption that the butterflys on it move but aren't hooked up to the throttle, open and closed by vacuum created by the carb? Could one of those be getting stuck, cutting off your air intake?

Complete shot in the dark from left field I know but since you checked everything on the spark side, that'd lead me to looking at air/fuel next.

My 2005 FLHTC started doing this several years ago. Shut it off and let it cool down, it would fire right back up and run fine until it got hot then shut down the front cylinder. I changed the plugs and never had the problem again. FWIW - try the simple things first.

I will definitely look into the check engine code. After that I will look into the air/fuel mixture. I've considered that already but it seems electrical to me. Thx all!

Obviously the carb feeds into a common manifold , can`t see it affecting only one cylinder
But strange things do happen.
