2016 Fat boy 103 insanely hot exhaust pipe blazing hot
Hello Fat boy pundits ..
I just got my first Harley, it's a 2016 Fat boy with a TC103 with only 2400 miles !.
At first glance it was love from the first moment. Till I got into traffic, rode it for about 15 minutes, it was a 85 degrees day here in Atlanta, and oh dear lord, my right thigh turned into roasted chicken !.
I couldn't believe the heat that came out of the glowing blazing hot pipes. If god forbid this bike would drop on my leg, it would melt my thigh straight to bone through my jeans. Not kidding.
Try googling the issue, read some people say "yeah, that's normal, welcome to Harley 103", and some say, it's not that bad, it's normal for Harelys.
Please let me know what you think. If that's normal, then I won't be able to ride it in traffic in a hot day. If not normal, then what's the suspected reason for such overheating.
Thank you all. I am totally bummed out with this trouble. Was planning to celebrate this weekend with a long ride to smoky mountains, but stayed home till I resolve this issue one way or the other.
Twinkies are well known for being ball cookers, why do you think there's so many products out like fans and deflectors to address that? I can see some pipe setups making it worse.
I couldn't believe the heat that came out of the glowing blazing hot pipes..
I've only ridden a few hundred miles on a 103 (son had a '16 Super Glide)
and was never stuck in traffic on it.
so I don't know "how" hot they can get.
are the pipes really "glowing red" that you can see in daylight?
or is that an exaggeration?
We make a leather heat shield that will work very well on your bike .. Our products are easy to install and we stand behind our work .. Please check us out and if you have any questions just let us know .. Thank you Itch ..
Does it have pipes other than factory in it? How about an air cleaner or tuner?
Sounds to me like it needs tuned, pipes shouldn't be that hot unless you left it at idle for hours.
I'm still trying to determine the temperature difference between "insanely" hot and "blazing" hot. I am guessing the OP may be embellishing his story to make his point.
Ignition timing is off or running lean. When the temps rise, I only put my left foot down. I have forward controls on my 09 Custom, my right leg is away from the rear cylinder.
If itbis tuned check the tune, knew a guy that took his bike in for some warranty work, picked it and rode, the header got so hot it burnt a hole in it and burned his inner leg, the dealer picked it back up to look at it, for some reason the bike lost the tune. I have ridden 103 fatboys and heritages, they have never run that hot.
