The ThunderMax doesn't require a Dyno tune, so even though it's more expensive up front, it could save money in the long run. Not to mention the AutoTune feature sounds awesome. Oh and the fact that it works for the '08s is a big plus too.
Last I heard, it does not work with the '08s.
As for dyno tuning, you no longer need a dyno for the fuel delivery, but for max performance you'd still have to get the timing dyno tuned.
I called them and talked to them today, and the guy I talked to assured me that it will work on the '08s. However, it won't work for the '08 Touring models yet. They're working on that one still and it should be out in about 30 days, he said.
I went to my local dealer today and talked to them about getting a credit back on the SERT I have on order and getting the ThunderMax instead. They seemed hesistant on it and recommended I don't do it. They recommended that because the '08s haven't been out very long and they worry that proper testing hasn't been done on the ThunderMax for the '08s. The pipes I ordered are on backorder, so I guess I'm in no huge hurry to get a fuel management system put on because at this point, it would be pointless. I've pretty much determined after reading the posts in here and in other threads and forums that the ThunderMax is an awesome product. Now I'dlike to hear how they are working on the '08s. Has anyone put one on a '08 yet? I'll probably wind up getting the ThunderMax after my pipes come in, unless the SERT comes out really soon. I'm putting the exhaust and Wimmer air cleaner on at the same time as the fuel management system with no future motor mods planned, so if I go with the SERT and have it Dyno'd, I shouldn't have to worry about it again. I still really like all the reviews on the ThunderMax, so I'm very interested in hearing if anyone has put on a '08 model yet and how it works.

Am interested in the Tmax with Auto tune myself. Have )7 Fatboy with V&H bigshots staggered, and SE AC also paid the stealer the big bucks for the SERT------ > had the bike Dyno tuned at stealer too at 1K service. I feel the bike could/ought to run better in the lower gears like30 mph in 3rd ( i thought that the gearing was changed on 07 bikes ) to make them more ridable all around city and highway ?
At any my vance and hines sound like a bowl of rice crispies snap crackle and pop on decel in low gears and when coming off freeway off ramp... also feel power in low gears is not as broad as it could be. Would be nice to know if the Tmax could help out the low and mid range. I ride in town in 30 mph zones and have to ride 35 to have the bike not lug in 3rd gear, and need to hit 4th for 40 to not feel like I am starting to rev up too much for 3rd.
I do not want to have to spend 70 bucks for 30 mins dyno time to get teh SERT straighten out.... gads.
Off topic - I also wonder how a 103 build would perform and how durable it would be as i would like that torque.
Its the best money you'll spend on your bike. Great support and IMO the best product. I've had mine since about 300 mi on my 07 FXDL and what a difference from stock. Only mods I did was a set of Rinehart staggered's and a AN Big Sucker AC. Running map 393 with the new 045 firmware and my bike runs great with one small problem Zippers has not been able to fix. My 6th speed indicator does not work. We tried many things and they will take it back to test at seasons end so hopefully that will get resolved. I guess I'm not the only one with this problem either from what I hear. But even with that problem its a small price to pay for the performance I get. I'll take that trade-off even if they can't fix my 6th speed indicator. Great service from Zippers. Buy with confidence.
It's been 1 full year since i upgraded my Stage I 08 Heritage by adding cams & the ThunderMax Autotuner. Let me say this about how well my bike now runs, not that it didn't run descent before but holy crap fatman......this thing flies now. The tuner that installed the cams & TM also dyno'd it and said it was one sweet running motor and that it now runs how it should have ran right out of the factory. He explained to me about how badly the EPA makes HD choke the motors down to meet their expected requirements. I'm totally amazed at the difference a properly setup and tuned motor actually runs. My 96b now gets down the road very impressively as i have an entire group of my local friends to vouche for that fact. Some of whom now have TM's also after seeing the difference it made in my bike and everyone of them seems to be extremely happy they spent the $ and got the TM. My wife just got a used 09 1200c Sporster and it's gonna get a complete Stage I upgrade as well along with a TM & dyno. It's an expensive investment but i think worth every penny to make the bike run that well. I personally would never go back and use a SERT or any kind of "piggyback" type ECU add-on, as i just don't believe they work as well as what the TM does. While it's not a must to have the bike dyno'd to run well, I highly recommend doing it so it does run at it's peak right from the start for where the Auto-tune feature starts out on the money right from the start. That's what I did and it's worked out well for me.
