Default BSS Baffles

I just ordered the BSS. Does anyone know if the baffles come with the pipes or do I need to specifically order them separate?

Your BSS will come with a baffle-system built-in, but you're probably asking about the "quiet baffle" accessory that you can order which replace what is already inside them.

The replacement baffles are V&H stock #21869, $29.95 each. You need one for each pipe. If you're doing the whole stage 1, and if you're adding their FuelPak and a new high flow A/C, there are different settings for the FuelPak when you swap-out for the quiet baffles.

There are pros & cons for using the baffles. I've decided to not buy them.

I hope this helps.

Ah... thanks Paul. So long as the BSS are not simply straight pipes - I'll wait to hear what the "built-in" baffles sound like.

they are seperate parts. i am leaning towards buying them because I do not want obnoxious pipes, and my understanding is that the vh bss set is pretty loud without them.

The stock BSS do have a baffle system installed, as mentioned, but they're straight-through and don't muffle. The pipes were a bit loud for me, so I got the quiet baffles. The name is a bit of a misnomer, as they don't really quiet it down a lot, although they certainly did bring it to an acceptable level (for me). They're still loud, make no mistake. Also, I removed the glass packing before installing them... that might have opened them up a bit more than they would have been (I presume so) and may have allowed me to achieve the desired level? Not sure, as I have no desire to pull them out and reinstall the glass just to see. If, as someone else had posted in another thread, you may intend on switching back and forth for one reason or another, you may want to remove the glass anyway - it sounds like the glass makes it difficult to remove once they're in place.

I ran the stock baffles for a couple of thousand miles before switching to the quiet baffles. I installed with the packing that's wrapped abound them, and I like the results. The quiet baffles changes the tone bymuffling some of the crackle and pop out, leaving a little more rumble and thunder. I'm glad I changed.

[8D] I have V&H BSS on my 07 Fatboy- 3000 miles on them.
Perhaps after I install the ThunderMax with Auto tune - and yank the HD SERT out they will sound better than snap - crackle - pop otherwise I am going for some D&D fat Cat pipes for the rumble.

Just my own experience .... mgm

The quiet baffles add low end torque for sure which gets it better off the line. I've though of taking the packing off to see if the sound is a little better with the torque, but would not consider taking them out to replace with the original straight-throughs. Thought the sound was totally sick with the stock baffles, the performance suffered, clearly, even with the FI tuning, stage I cleaner, etc.

I have noticed, that after 1K miles on the baffles, that they seem to be getting a little louder ... Perhaps as the glass gets more dense.

Personal feeling is that I had to give up some real fun with the loudness to get back some torque. Torque rules ...

If you're putting on the ThunderMax, it certainly should take care of your pops... those are most likely caused by being too lean at the lower throttle positions (0 & 2 on PC III) on your current map. I've nearly eliminated all decelleration pops on mine using the PC III.
