Is there anything I should ask them to double check? I find it hard to believe they do everything thats listed in the 1000mi service.I already told them about the clunking in the front end when I hit a bump. They threw in the first service when I bought the bike. I drop it off today after work.
Ask for Synthetic oil. Just had mine done the other day with Syn 3.Had I know that HD would have used AMS oil or Mobil VTwin if I supplied it, would have done that. Pretty quick with no complaints.
I agree run all synthetic oil. My tranny shifts much smoother after I put it in. I have an 07 night train also. I watched them do the 1,000 mile service. They are pretty much just changing the oil, could have done that myself....
Sorry for my cynical comments; but I think you'll get what you pay for; meaning not much.
You'll get youroil and filter changed, they'll check the levels on the other oils, they'll look at your cables and test your clutch. If you mention your clunking, they'll poke around for that too.
I agree with ronyd, bring in your own synthetics and get that done.
Again, being cynical, I have had new cars and now a new bike, and I don't think there is a service provider on earth that ACTUALLY goes through the whole list of "first service" items. It is much easier for the dealer to have something go wrong and thenget premium charges paid back by the manufacturer as a warranty claim.
"Squeeky wheels get the greese"....IfYOU find something, or hear something, make sure you speak up while your bike is still under warranty.
I did my own as well, and converted to Mobil1 at that time.
If you do your own service, be sure you have a service manual to follow, and do the steering head adjustment.... several here have complained about wobbles that appear to be stemming from loose steering heads. The rest of the service is simple and straightforward.
