My failed TSM was the result of a worn through harness that shorted out the module. The only sign I had was no lights/turn signals and when I shut my bike off at home it would not turn over.

 

I have an 02 softail, carbed. I have used the original factory "tsm" modules in my bike, along with newer model factory "tssm" modules found on ebay, etc., without issues. As hattitude said, being as your bike doesn't have an ecm, you can disregard going through the hell of password learn and the headache that comes with it. I'll address the elephant in the room here, is your bike going to be useless and no longer road worthy if the tsm module goes out? absolutely not. Are you going to have to have to pay $400-$600 to find a replacement module on ebay? probably.
