I just changed the handlebars on my 06 heritage. I noticed when I took it for a ride I have no Speedo/odometer, no lights in dash except security key light and neutral indicator, blinkers don't work nothing. Ive checked and rechecked the plugs.all seem good any ideas as to why this is happening?
My 2000 FLSTC had the same issues. Final fix was replacing a bad voltage regulator. Been 6 months no issues. BTW I initially changed the speed sensor that lives in the tranny which had no effect.
OP, if it was a bad VSS, the speedometer wouldn't show speed and the turn signals wouldn't cancel..... It wouldn't cause the turn signals to not work at all...
Sounds like you have an issue with voltage getting to where it needs to be....
Start with checking the battery, and the battery cables, both ends. Especially the ground.
With a good, solid 12V power source, I'd check for codes. But that takes some specific knowledge, found in the electrical diagnostic manual. I think it is also in the factory service manual.
Barring any codes, I would suspect the voltage regulator as mentioned above, or the TSM/TSSM. So I would then check one of those, then the other....
Good luck with your diagnosis, keep us posted...

Just a point of interest explained to me by my Indy. The reason my turn signals wouldn't self cancel when my speedometer was not functioning is.....the turn signals will not self cancel without having a working speedometer to tell the system how far the bike has traveled
I found that interesting

Interesting, certainly makes sense... but about 10 years ago on my '03 Heritage, I had turn signals not self canceling, the speedo working fine, and a new VSS fixed the issue....
I reread my post and what I stated was wrong. What must be working to cancel the directionals is the odometer, not the speedometer. The odometer has to measure the distance traveled to cancal the directionals
