2000 Harley night train motor issues
The other week I was out ripping the Harley to work, On the way home the bike starting cutting out fluttering and making all kinds of noises. Almost sounded like the bearings were making their way from the crank through the heads. I managed to baby it home.
Once I got home and shut the bike off, I tried to turn it back on, nothing. Motor seemed to be seized up. Finally, going through it the pistons freed up. No scarring in the heads looking in from the spark plug ports great compression a little on the higher side but solid. The lifters were working great as I turned it over with the battery. Then draining the oils and looking for metals there wasnt anything other than your standard flake from wear and tear. Im kind of past my knowledge and looking for help almost seems like a valve issue.
With that being said the motor and trans are worked, bigger cams, makuni carb. 2 to 1 thunder headers. Everything is screaming eagle and done by a great builder here locally. Its up around 105/110hp. Any ideas of what it could be or where to look? Thanks in advanced

A loss of oil pressure will cause the lifters to start making a lot of noise, followed by the rockers/valves, followed by some really bad stuff....
At any time in this did your oil pressure light come on?
Have you ever checked/updated the spring cam tensioners?
I would have stopped the bike, shut off the engine, and towed it home when the bike started making all that noise, especially if I was just, "out ripping the Harley to work".
Just based on your current information, I would do an actual compression test... If there looked like an issue, I'd do a leak down test. Then it would be time to disassemble things looking for the problem. The leak down test would hint at how far you would have to go...
Barring the compression test with hints at a problem from that test, I would be opening the cam chest to check the cam tensioners, the lifters, and the oil pump.....
Based on what I found I would go from there...
Good luck and keep us posted.....
