I'm looking at replacement tanks for my '99 softail.
The 6 gallon flat-sides at Dennis Kirk have piqued my interest, but I can't find any photos of what they look like installed on the bike. I love the short, wide look, but I don't want to be ridiculous either.
Being old and lazy ,( more the old), I would think that quality control would pressure test and look for flaws and such before sending part out? Would save a possible waste of time and money for shipping and handling.
Maybe I am too old school
They were popular in the 90's, like you said wide and fat. To me they would look very dated on a bike today. Go back to Easyriders Magazine with all the billet barges, they liked the 6 gallon tanks. Good luck.
Nothing about it makes it look ridiculous to me.
The tank itself is not very expensive, though all the prep and painting will make it so.
If it's what you want, and you've the coin, I'd say go for it.

I just wish I could find a pic of a mounted example, so I can actually see what it'll look like. I have a pair of new 5 gallons on backorder anyway & I was considering switching. Seeing how much original, clean tins are selling for, I'll still be dollars ahead replacing all mine & having them painted or powdercoated how I want, rather than mess with the stock items.
