Default 2012 Fat Boy Lo - rear tire question

Picked up a 2012 Fat Boy Lo with 3600 miles and new HD tires (installed by the dealer selling the bike). Closing in on 5K miles since I bought it and I noticed that I am about 1mm from hitting the rear wear bar. So is this typical for these tires? Is there a better brand with greater durability? I don't ride this like a sport bike and I don't burn out, so this seems out of place with my experience with my other bikes where I will routinely get >10K miles

What brand/model tires are on the bike?

If the dealer put on Dunlop tires, there are several models used.

The best in my experience are the Dunlop American Elite tires. I have switched to them from the OEM model Dunlops on my 4 Harley bikes.

It is hard to make a meaningful comparison between different bikes, different locations, and different riders.... BUT...

I have a 2016 Ultra Classic, a heavy bike with a 180 rear tire. It also has a high HP crate engine @ 135HP/151TQ. I do not ride it hard, but I do "play" every now and again. It is my trip bike, for multi-day trips when heavily loaded.

I currently have 17K miles on these American Elite tires. The rears are close to, but not quite at, the wear bars. The fronts appear to have have several thousand miles left. I will be changing them both the beginning of next month, because I am taking a long road trip the following month.

I hope some of this info helps....
