Would'nt it be possible for Honda to just buy up enough stock to just take over the moco?

I suspect that one or more of the HD ownership holds 51% or more of HD stock, thus making that scenario impossible. Just a guess though.

Hostile takeovers are possible... but usually the company being taken over has to be put in a bind to be in that situation. Financially mainly. HD doesn't appear to be in a weak situation as we have seen by the recent interest rate financing they have offered (first time ever I believe??). Of course that could be used to boost sales also as an opposite.

Probably things have changed but I thought that the employee's did a major stock purchase of Harley Davidson to get it back on it's feet after the AMF days? I thought they were the majority stock holders?

Even if all that were true, I still don't think the FTC would lookto kindly on an offshore company trying to monopolize the market.
Now if somebody like Ford or GM were to try it, that would be another story.
Even though both of those companies are automotive in nature and global in size. They are basically American operations without previous or current interests in the motorcycle market. Then I believe it could be considered something along the lines ofbroadening their market base instead of monopolizing it.

I believe you are correct. It has nothing to do with Harley-Davidson being bought. It has to do with who is buying it. Mainly the largest motorcycle manufacturer buying them out and having such a large portion of the market share. Any company having that kind of market share can be dangerous. They would pretty much have complete influence on the market.

If Harley-Davidson was bought out by Honda, I guarantee you Victory sales would go up! Instead of their slogan, "The New American Motorcycle," they would have, "The Only American Motorcycle."

my 2 cents. If HD was bought by Honda, we would see significant improvements in engine performance etc. I don't think they would change the HD look or guts. Look at the car companies, Chrysler owned by Benz, better cars now. GM has a JV with a foreign car company, so does Ford ( owns Jaguar etc). Mergers are the way of the future and if MoCo merged with Honda or Ducati, we'd have incredible performing bikes.

Just an opinion, no rocks please.

No rocks, but Honda buying big chunks of Harley would raise red flages all over the place. Ducati would be another story, but in reverse. They don't own anywhere near the market share of Harley or Honda. If anything like that happened Harley would be the buyer instead of the other way around. Ducati isn't anywhere near big enough or well enough managed to make a dent in what itwould cost them to get hold of Harley.
