Mergers are the way of the future and if MoCo merged with Honda or Ducati, we'd have incredible performing bikes.
Just an opinion, no rocks please.
No rocks, but Honda buying big chunks of Harley would raise red flages all over the place. Ducati would be another story, but in reverse. They don't own anywhere near the market share of Harley or Honda. If anything like that happened Harley would be the buyer instead of the other way around. Ducati isn't anywhere near big enough or well enough managed to make a dent in what itwould cost them to get hold of Harley.
I agree with you guys. I think HD may be interested in buying a portion of Ducati. HD wants to grow overseas because the US market is satuated with HD bikes. They can really sell many more bikes overseas using Ducatis dealer network. Also, Buell still has not been able to win over the sport bike riders. I would like to see Ducati bikesfor sale at all HD dealers. They can take market share from the ricer bikes. BTW, the single side swing arm on the Ducatis is bad A$$.
The thing is,,that car companies like Ford are nto making any better Jaguars or Chrysler ar NOT making any better MB.As i see Ford Jaguars are loosing that European style,,and Harley will loose all the American style,..history etc,..Who will like a Honda Harley? or a Night Train R1?? hahahahahah .Who will like a 68 camaro with a nissan engine?.....
Justmy opinnion,,,Pls tell me if that rumor is true cuz ill run to a HD dealer and ill buy all the Harleys i can,,,tomorrow they will cost a fortune!....
my 2 cents. If HD was bought by Honda, we would see significant improvements in engine performance etc. I don't think they would change the HD look or guts. Look at the car companies, Chrysler owned by Benz, better cars now. GM has a JV with a foreign car company, so does Ford ( owns Jaguar etc). Mergers are the way of the future and if MoCo merged with Honda or Ducati, we'd have incredible performing bikes.
I am not so sure the FTC would have any real say in a Honda - Harley Davidson merger given the examples of Ford, GM and Chrysler working relationships or ownership of the likes of Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati etc.

It has to do with market share. Not who's buying who. The merger would control about 65% of the motorcycle market. That would give the Honda-Harley company control over what happens in the market. It would make things unfair for other competitors, and it would also be bad for the consumer if the new company controlled almost everything. When competition is hindered, no one wins except the company with the largest market share.
IF it were to happen, and I seriously doubt the FTC would allow it, Honda would be foolish to start changing things with it's new H-D Division. Why on earth would they mess around with such a successful formula and profit margin? The only thing that would change would be that more parts would be out-sourced to save money. Harley's would still look and sound like Harleys.
This is a old rumor as I heard it. True it affected market shares but it was never a reality. Last I heard the rumor was that HD spread it to raise HD stock but who knows or cares. Fact the rumor of Honda and HD has been told far more then once before.
