Hey guys it wasn't my intention you leave you hanging but I work 6 night shifts a week and by the time I get the chores done that need to be done there was no time for the computer. So I'm really sorry I didn't update the thread. Even when I got the new bulb I didn't get a chance to put it in because I left the store with it,and went straight to work that night. Never put it in until the following evening. The old bulb was stuck in the on position all that time and then it blew and went out completely. And it really blew because the bulb was shattered when I pulled the lens off. First time I've ever seen a bulb blow like that. Usually they bow and the bulb is still intact. I had to pull the remaining bits out with needle nose pliers .I put some dielectric grease on the new bulb and cleaned up the plug and installed it and all was good... so after all that at least I had and excuse to install all the chrome bits that I had sitting in the closet for the last two years and have been putting it off.
So I just want to say thanks to all you guys for offering up all the advise and suggestions, I really appreciate it.
So why was the brake light on continuously?
Did the filament break and fall on the run filament?
Usually the glass breaks when it's hot and suddenly gets wet.

That's a good question. The shattered bits were all blue/purple in color. Like I said ,I've never seen one shatter like that before. Perhaps it shorted out for some reason? I'm not an electrician so I have no idea.
