Looking at these 2 models. Any opinions would be great!

If I were you I would use the search function. The WG v Custom has been discussed often before and the Custom is basically the same as a NT, just different handle bars and trim.

Do you like black or chrome....

IMHO everyone has chrome, and I can do a million things to my train to make it look different from the rest....

I'll be "that" guy and say Dyna.

It used to be that a Night Train was a minority and to have one did set you apart from the rest to some degree. But so many people, wanting to be 'different', bought them. As a result, they are no more unique or special than any other model. I would go so far as to say they are more prevalent than other models. Customizing them isn't going to set them apart any more than chrome does other models, like IsurvivedNMU mentioned.

Wide Glides are nice looking bikes. With the limited run for 08, its likely you won't see as many flying out of the showroom. So, for the specialness factor, that's a plus for the Wide Glide. Plus, Dynas have a really nice ride.

I own a Softail so I'm not poo-pooing them. But given your choice of DWG or NT, I'd pick the DWG.

Those were my two choices too... and I went with the Night Train and put WG handlebars on it for a more comfortable riding position. I liked the look of the softail more, no rear shocks showing/hard tail look, and the lower riding position. Feels more like you're riding "in" the bike rather then riding on top of it. Just my 2 cents....

Besides cosmetics and handle bar positions the major differenceis the counter balanced motors on softails verse rubber mounts on the dyna. Gives a different ride for sure.

I say sit down at your computer or go into your dealership and stare at the bikes. Think about all the things you would do to customize. Whichever one gives you the best vision, go with it. I like both bikes a lot. However, the counterbalanced motor is more comfortable to me than rubber mounts. My issue with the Nightrain is just about everyone does the same things to them. It's kinda hard to make a Nightrain look different from everyone elses unless you sink a chunk of money into it. My issue with the '08 Wide Glide is because it's a limited edition bike, it might make a person reluctant to customize it. If you started taking parts off, it would definitely be wise to hang on to them and definitely get new tins if you ever decided to paint it. That's my $.02 if it's even worth that.

That was my choice, and I went with the Night Train. Then I added a few things that gave it a bit of a Wide Glide look - apes, seat, sissybar, etc...

There were things about the Train that I really wanted such as the solid disc rear wheel, hidden rear shocks, blacked out look, etc... and the forward controls on the Wide Glide were a little too forward for me, and I had to reach fo them. The Softail fits me like a glove.

If I had the choice to do over, I'd still go with the Train all the way!!

Cheers!
