I remember when the Evo was launched - I lived in Oakland CA and would go over to Dudley Perkins in SF to buy parts in the bargain basement for my shovels. The attitude was clearly different once they were in charge and no longer fought against AMF - the common foe was dead and now you got to live with the facts of running a business - they had this deal that if you bought the sporty for 2995 you could trade it in anytime and get 2995 on trade for a Big Twin - it brought in the masses - new clients with different priorities - I still remember the smell of all those new bikes in that little showroom with wood floors - not sure if Dudley Perkins is still there - it was a very unique place - and before the Evo hit the floors - they cared about me cause the guys that worked in the shop and the parts dept suffered like the rest of us with those late 70's and early 80's shovels......we were in it together - just my 2 cents - aint worth much anymore

Damn I’m feeing special. I got a glass etched plaque etched and framed along with 2 T’s from Earl Small’ HD in Marietta ,Ga when I bought my 05 Train in early 05. Even got 10% off assesories before I left the shop that day. I can’t remember my salesman’s name but cool dude no pressure. I think having the envelope filled with hundred dollar bills that day sure helped.
I realize those days are long gone now though. Still riding the Train.

I remember buying my first new HD in ’85 from Walter May at May’s HD in Greenville SC where I lived. It was Walter and one tech, Bruce, at the dealership. MSRP was $8400, and asking price was $7400. Those were the days. New Evo engines had come out in the past year, and prices were discounted in the showroom.

I asked if there was wiggle room in the price, and he gave me $50 off.

You could actually buy parts with that kind of scratch back then.

I got a plaque for the Breakout I bought back in March. It's a nice touch I guess, if that sort of thing makes you feel special. But I have to admit that I already don't know where it is, and it's been all of 3 months, lol. So before you get mad that you didn't get an 11 cent "award" for buying a bike, think of all the junk that you accumulate over a lifetime that just collects dust until it's finally thrown away...and then ask yourself "What would I actually do with this thing if I had it?". If a genuinely useful answer isn't forthcoming, then you don't need it.
