2007 night train issues
Hey guys l! New to the forum page. I recently bought a 07 night train and was riding it home when it suddenly started running like garbage. Running as if it had a bad plug. Limped it home and looked at the diagnostics code and was throwing P0262 (front injector high) so I changed the plugs. Old ones weren’t bad and got a stock set of new injectors from Harley and replaced them. Cleared the code and started the bike and no change. So I checked the battery(still good) checked the ground wire and cleaned it up. Then went through and inspected the whole bike. The 02 sensor was loose I could move it with my fingers tighten that back up and started it. No luck through same code. Started checking wire and found that the guy before installed an after market license place bracket and ran the wires through the rear fender. The tire ground 2 of the 3 wires but the lights and everything still work. He also used speaker wire to splice them so I’m assuming he did this exact thing once before. Would than have any effect on how my bike would run? I’m going to fix this issue but was wondering if that would do something to change the way my bike runs.
I hate it when someone hacks up a bike's electrical harness.... That PO needs a slap..
As to the injector... after you replaced the old ones with new injectors, took it for a ride, and it still ran crappy...... does it still throw the P0262 code?
If so, try a noid light to make sure the signal is getting to the injector.
If that checks OK, check the injector connector to ensure that a pin didn't get bent when you installed the new one, causing a bad connection. If that checks OK, check the injector.. it is possible, however improbable, that you got abad one
If the injector isn't getting a signal: Check the wiring between the ECM and injectors. Look closely, a wire under stress can have the wire separate under the insulation. You could start with a visual check, then a continuity test between the ECM & injector. Eventually checking the ECM output pin to the injector to ensure the ECM is sending the injector a signal.
If you are no longer getting the P0262 code, and verified a signal form the ECM to the injector, you may have a fuel delivery issue... Time to check fuel pressure and inspect the fuel system from the tank to the injectors...
Let us know what you find...
It sure seems that one cylinder isn't firing. Did you check the new plugs to see if one was wet with gas?
Might be worth verifying you have fuel to both cylinders.
Because of the code, I would also make sure no pins are bent or loose in the injector connector. If they are, and you push the connector all the way on, they still won't make contact.
If the connector pins are OK, then I would use a noid light to ensure the injector is getting a signal from the ECM to fire....
Or, if you are electrically gifted (I am not), get the electrical diagnostic manual for your bike, and go right to the source. Check the output signal from the ECM to the injector for the proper signal/voltage...
As mentioned above, check and see if you've actually got spark at the plugs, and check to see if you've got fuel squirting from the injectors.
