Default Scraping the floorboards question

I checked and didn't see anything about this, so I apologize if its been covered.

In reading many threads, a lot of people are scraping the fb's on their bikes.

Being a newer rider, I don't know the correct way to handle this. Is it dangerous to scrape a little? I assume not unless I'm dragging a lot. Is there some way to tell before its too late that I'm dragging too much? Am i just paranoid? (of course I am somewhat! I don't want to hurt my baby or myself for that matter)

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you...

Adam, if you think it worries you then wait until you are following someone then you get showered with sparks!!! I do know of some folks who have put a small rectangle block of 1/4" - 3/8" thick nylon / hdpe on the bottom portion of their fb's so it doesn't grind away the chrome and start making a place for rust to start... just something to think about.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll take it from your answer that I should have nothing to fear from it.
I will look into your suggestion of a small block under the board. I haven't hit them yet, but I only got the bike Sunday. So far I'm not riding with others, but definately before I do, I will figure out how to correct it.

Nylon blocks are an excellent idea!

I've heard when the floorboards scrape it is an indication that you have reached the maximum lean angel of the bike (well...duh...I guess so! LOL).

I've scrapped my boards a few times, but I usually don't corner hard enough to have a problem with them. It's not really a big deal, but it scares the be-gebbers out of me every time I do.

Listen man - here's the rule.
"You're not having fun till you're scrapping pegs!"

I first scraped mine when I was testing for my license in an ABATE class, and that's exactly what the instructor said after I did it....
I was concerned for a second, but I passed the test just fine : )

Try to turn it like a sport bike and you'll have something to fear. Harley's aren't exactly turning machines.

Had 22 miles on my 05 fatboy when I took the riders course. Scraped mine most of the time. Instructor also said you aint having fun til your scraping. Didn't really scare me but the other students had allot of comments. Kinda made me laugh. Besides once scraped kinda relieves you about the first scratch. Not much I could really do about it. Just IMOA

Going from a Hayabusa to a Fatboy I'm really having to adjust on turns, I've hit the boards several times.

My deluxe scrapes also....It's normal for being so low....And now I'm considering dropping the front end and inch or so....Hopefully it won't scraping too much!!
