2015 Slim. All gears work except 2nd. 2nd makes this ratcheting noise. Neutral to first works, bypass to 3rd works. 3rd to 2nd Grinds.
Any ideas?
Did this just start happening? Did you recently do some work that may have caused this?
Barring any recent trans, clutch, primary work... First thing to check is the shifter linkage. Check all the splined connections between levers, pedals, & rods in the shift linkage. Make sure they are tight, and the splines haven't stripped.
That is all external, and easy to do...
If the shifter linkage is in good shape... then shifter forks, shifter pawl, and/or shifter spring comes to mind. That will require you to take the transmission top cover off and start inspecting the trans for damage....
Good luck with your diagnosis and let us know what you find and how you make the repair...

Thanks,
No work done previously.
I inspect the linkages, to my unexperienced eyes, they look fine.
I am going to take it to a local HD mechanic.
Not that I am there yet, but what is a reasonable labor for swapping in another Tranny?

Hopefully someone with experience with that will chime in.. I have no idea what the shop rate for a job like that would be...
I would guess it matters if they can fix it through the trans top cover, or they pull the gear set out, or they need to remove the entire transmission, case an all...

Keep us posted on the outcome
Thanks, I am going to adjust the clutch and see if it makes any difference.
The noise is like spinning gear bouncing off another unable to mesh
