I'm trying to fit braided steel oil lines to my rebuild, however the spigots/nipples that come from the oil tank are really starting to try my patience. I can get the oil line on but I can't get the hose end finisher (Russell AN6) to fit, there's not enough room for the oil line to expand and fit over the nipple and I end up distorting the line as well as getting stabbed in the fingers by the little bits of stray wire. I have considered various options like cutting the ends off the oil tank hard outlets....
Has anyone experienced the same problem? I can just use the normal hose clamp but that will look scrappy and unfinished.

I'm not an oil line expert, but I don't think AN fittings can/will connect to a regular hose barb. I believe you will need to get a "Hose barb to AN fitting" to make it work...
If someone more knowledgeable than I doesn't chime in with exactly what you need, try googling "Hose barb to AN fitting" and check them out to see if that's what you need...
Have you tried putting some oil on the nipple and inside the oil line? I put braided lines on my 91 Fatboy with the Russell hose finishers and put them on my 98 Custom with rubber lines. The placement of the evo oil tank outlets sometimes make hard to give the hoses a good push to get them on.
I thought he was at first trying to put an AN -6 fitting [ aeroquip type ] on a braided line. Those are really pricklers, with the stainless braids sticking you in the fingers while trying to get them all under the collar fitting. Nothing stings like SS braid.
But rereading, I see these are the for-looks braided lines that use a hose clamp under a fake collar. As others have said, little oil, and pushing to get it over the fitting end.
Allow the end of the hose your looking to push the barb into to soak in hot water for about 10 minutes. Coat the barb with a little oil and twist it as your pusing hard. You wanna work fast after removing it from the hot water before it cools down and the hose hardens again.
They make a tool called Cool tool for AN fittings at Jeg’s. I normally grind the flared end a little to give yourself a little more leeway and soak line in hot water for 10 minutes or so before trying to install. It’s easier if you take the fitting out of the tank first and reinstall after line is on. Bottom line is always a pain in the ***. Heated line and jam it on fast. I also coat the nipples with dielectric grease.
