I have no response to any of the right handlebar controls. This bike only has the 3 fuses that I could find, all check out to be good. Light come on with the dash, left handlebar all switches work but the right side is dead. ECM? Not sure on this one.
It's not the ECM.
So all the functions on that side are dead, including the starter switch? You need to inspect the wiring inside the right clamshell for pinched or loose wiring.
No nothing has been torn into for years, it has been sitting but after charging the battery, I ran into this issue. It has always had a slow drain and have been cranked many times in a low voltage situation. Also, has had blinker cancel issues after getting wet a few times.
Dump codes.. All the controls are though cam bus.. You should be able to see errors from the ECM and BCM.. I'd check the connection where the switch plugs into the harness.
If your right handlebar controls are completely dead but the bike still powers on, the issue is likely in the wiring or switches rather than the ECM. Start by checking the connectors under the tank and near the handlebars loose or corroded plugs are common culprits. Inspect the wiring harness where it bends at the steering head, as broken wires often hide there. Test the right switch assembly with a multimeter to rule out a faulty switch pack. Since your fuses are good and the left controls work, this points to a localized problem in the right-side circuit. If you dont find any obvious damage, a shop can perform a pin-out test to trace the break in the circuit.
I've had bikes sitting a while(like 3 years) out in my shed that had issues when I wheeled it to my garage. I had to start tearing into things, removing body panels, seat, etc. to find that mice were having a field day on the wiring. Apparently they really like the wire coating because it's sometimes made from soybean? Who knew?
I had to splice some of the wires with short pieces, and I used liquid electrical tape for the first time on a lot of the wires that just had the covering chewed off, it was a life saver.
