Compensator upgrade
If the engine is stock or mildly modified, you can't go wrong with the OEM version of the compensator. The early Twin Cam years had an older design compensator that proved to be very reliable, and not very problematic. But alas, all things mechanical can break or wear out.
I have two early Twin Cams ('01 & '03), if/when they need a new comp, I will go OEM parts, if still available.
The HD comp issues didn't surface until they "upgraded" the comp for the '06 Dynas, and '07+ all other models... They upgraded to the newest, best performing Twin Cam comp in 2014 with the Rushmore Touring bikes.
PS- The #42200064A comp is the new style comp and won't fit your bike. It's for the '09+ models that didn't get the new style comp of the Rushmore bikes in 2014. There's another one #40100061 that retro fits the new style comp of the Rushmore bikes, to the '06 to '11 models that got the problematic "upgraded' version of the comp.
If you want a new comp, you'll have to take yours apart, and replace the worn or damaged pieces "a la carte". Basically figure out what you need, #22, #24, #25, and/or #26 in the parts pic below. The #27 Comp Nut is no longer available from HD, it's an obsolete part #40392-91. Hopefully you won't need to replace the #10 Spacer, #29960-91A, because it's not only obsolete, but if that is damaged, you'll most likely need a new bottom end...
#22 = #40266-85 Shaft Extension @ $234.88
#24 = #40308-94 Compensating Sprocket, 25T @ $254.52
#25 = #40299-83A Sliding Cam @ $257.97
#26 = #40384-91 @ $218.00
I hope this info helps...
