Gear Oil Question 2003 FLSTC
Gotta love the picture of the clutch basket on the product page:

No recommendations for a road king either.

I have a stack of 18 receipts for $280 oil changes where they used the same HD oil in all 3 holes (That's $5,000!).
Well a little less, some of the earlier receipts were for "only" $240.
I do appreciate that he took care of it - or rather had it taken care of -
and maybe should have left it alone - but, I like to do the work myself almost as much as riding, I find working on a motorcycle fun and relaxing - especially when nothing is broken
So researched what might be better for the trans and primary. On almost every receipt was the note "customer complains it's hard to find neutral" then that they could find nothing wrong.
I rode it on his latest oil change for a few days, I thought it shifted fine and could find neutral pretty easy.
Then I put the Spectro in and it changed the way it shifted to like butter, and neutral is way easier to find.
Made the way it shifted before seem bad.
So I'd stick with any of the $30 ones - it's only a quart - other than the regular motorcycle oil.
As a side note on prices - he had a stage one done at the dealership before he picked the bike up in 2008 - Reinhart true duels, Kuryakyn air filter and Power commander 3 - $1,500 parts AND labor. I wonder what that would cost today?

However that is what my Electra Glide takes - 34.
But wow, the rest of my information must have been spot on, that's kind of surprising.
I hope no one ruined their transmission by overfilling with my advice.
I stand corrected and myself reprove.
"For a wet fill on most Harley-Davidson Electra Glides, you'll typically add about 32-38 ounces (1 quart) of fluid, but the best method is to fill to the bottom of the clutch basket with the bike upright".
And that's what I find - that liter (34 ounces) takes it up to the bottom of the clutch disk when level (a two-person job).
I do pay attention to the owners and shop/service manuals vut in this case I find 34 ounces is right.
And I know, I know, Ai isn't always right - as it told me these tires on my 2006 trailer I just purchased "will be manufactured in 2035, 9 years from now".
But I have found that 1 liter is just right.

I come here to learn things.
It tells you to check that primary oil with the derby cover off level at the bottom of the clutch disc while the motorcycles is level rather than on the jiffy stand.
I'm not going to try to balance my 900 lb Electra Glide straight up and down by myself while on my hands and knees checking that level with my face just a few inches off the ground.
You don't do that by yourself.
Of course it's a two person job.
You've been checking that while it's on the jiffy stand haven't you?
If the level just barely touches the disc while it's on the jiffy stand when you straighten it up it's going to be pretty low.
Probably a little dry in there doing it that way Barney boy.
What a jackass you are.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I'm just saying I found it to be, I don't have any kind of center stand and found it easier to have another person hold the bike straight up and down while I checked the level rather than get out a jack.
I can play ping pong by myself too but I prefer another person.
So how do you do it?
How do you check that level while the bike is straight up and down?
I also find bleeding the brakes is better with two people.
