I picked up my '08 Fatty less than two weeks ago. Ontwo occasions so far, when I hit the starter, the bike hesitates at first but roars to life with a puff of blue smoke from the AC. I have had it re-mapped sine doing the stage 1 with BSS as I'm not planning on doing anything else with the motor for a while at least. Should I be concerned or is the Fatty just off gassing?
If the dealer did the re-map, I'd get them to double check real quick for you. Anything coughing back out of your intake doesn't sound like a good thing.
By the way..... tell us more about the re-mapping. What was re-mapped? You must have had some sort of fuel management installed. The stock ECU can get re-mapped for stage 1? (I didn't think so).
My belief was that you could get a SERT from HD (but are they outfor '08 models yet?)
And then the other typical choices PCIII, FuelPak, and ThunderMax. A FuelPak for your BSS selection would be logical, but since you didn't mention it, I didn't want to assume a thing.
You can remap the factory ECM. The problem is that everytime you change something it may need to be remapped at a cost of $150. The PC, TMax and such all do it for less or in the case of the TMax (or any auto tuner) you don't need to keep buying maps. Anything out the carb.injectors is not right and should be investigated.
The onboard fuel management system got remapped (ECM) prior to me picking it up. I don't have any other fuel management system as I don't think I will change anything else with the motor. And bdavis, as I live in Canada, the remapping is $250 per job. Yeah, sucks don't it. I will bring my fatty to get it checked out. Thanks for the input.
something is wrong for sure, possibly they need to reload the download, ask them to do the race download so that you will get more fuel, the standard stage1 doesn't give you any more fuel it just adjusts the timing and rev limit (really a waste of money).
