G'day all, thinking about swapping the front end of my '07 Night Train to a genuine HD Springer front end (black naturally). Does anyone know whether you can purchase the Springer front end assembley or do you have to purchase the individual components?
I was told that it was once listed in older HD accessories catalogues, if that's the case can anyone with the older book quote a part number? Thanks in advance.
I don't have any part numbers for you but I called around last year looking for 1 & several dealers in the Mid-west had them in stock.
or, there's usually something on eBay LINK.
Rich, the width of the springers are the same and they are identical but the difference is the attachments for the fender and the brake setup. Since the FX runs a narrow tire the springer legs have welded in extensions that the springer for the FL doesn't have. You'll most likely want the FX versions since you're looking at putting it on the front end of the NIghttrain...unless you want a 16" fat tire on the front...
Here's the part #'s from an '03 catalog...they should work or a dealer can cross-reference to a newer number.
FX # 46195-00 fits '00 and later models FL # 46194-00 fits '00 and later models (the FL's also came with the running lights and bar mounted next to the headlight)
For a brand new one, the dealer will probably want around $2400 for one, I've seen them go for as low as $800 on EBay.
Scurvy Jack thanks for setting me straight on the difference between FX & FL Springer forks.
I'm getting some where now, part no. 46196-00 is a
FRONT END KIT, FX SPRINGER, BLACK D.......
as descibed by the Chicago Harley online store.Would someonehave the time to look this part no. up in an accessories catalogue and reply word for word what components are included in the kit, guard, rim, etc.
Please appreciate I'm 500km's from adecent size dealer and without an older catalogue listing this kit. I need to comfirm it is a black FX Springer front end that will bolt on to my 2007 Night Train.
COOL! Im doing the opposite of what you are doing Rich Train. I have a 2005 FL Springer & i am blacking it out! Its gonna be sweet! Should be done this weekend
Rich, in my older catalog both the FX springer and the FL springer gave an option either as by itself or adding a wheel and brake kit. The numbers I listed above were for the springer itself...so the 46196-00 number may very well be just the springer.
Okay...got my catalog back out and looked closer...what I get for hurrying and just scanning it for numbers.
The 46196-00 is for the black springer only. Part # 43849-00 (list price $700) includes the rest of the front end minus a fender. The kit consists of: spoke wheel, brake caliper assembly, brake rotor, front axle and mounting hardware.
PS...just checked ChicagoHarley...they have that kit also for $560
You may want to look into this, but for some reason I think the stockspringer front end is 2" shorter than a stock fxst front end.I know I've heard it, just don't know if it's true.
