Default what size apes?

I am going to be making the switch to ape hangers here pretty soon and am looking for a little input. I am a little height challenged and am wondering what the tallest apes I could use are. I am 5'8" and am thinking either 14" or 16" apes. I have a Night Train and will be using the risers off of a stock superglide. I think those are about 1" high. I ride alot and can't be having my arms falling asleep. Thanks for the help.

Grimm,

Be sure to check with your local law enforcement folks. Many states have legal limits to how high the bars can in relation to the risers. Concerning your specific question, it is truly a matter of personal preference and how you intend to ride. I have a buddy with a softail with 14" apes. He is about 5'10" and loves them. I am 6'3" and they don't fit me well at all. Good luck with your search.

I got minis and have found them to be awesome highway bars and excellent in town turning bars, I do think there is such a thing as too tall.

i want to put harley davidsons fat mini ape handlebars on my 2005 fatboy. part number 56832-04
because all the diamond back lines are predetermined, rather than trying a hit and miss on all the lines.
Diamondback™ Clutch Cable Kit
#56843-05
Diamondback™ Brake Line Kit
#46689-06
i dont know how many inches they are also.
i am 5'10" and 260 lbs. how do you think i will like these bars. i dont have any to try, so i am almost at the forums discretion to see if i will like these bars.
do anyone have pictures of these exact bars on a fatboy that i can view?
thank you.

I am 5'8 and I have mini-apes off an 02 Wide Glide with the WG risers (the 1" ones) on my Night Train, and to me that's the PERFECT height. I believe the bars are 12" tall. I'd measure them for yuo, but sadly, my baby is stored at the dealer for the winter... []

THe pic below shows how they look on my Train.

Cheers!

GRIMM..

I'm 5-8 also. I have 16 inch apes with 1.5 inch risers. My arms don't fall asleep either.. lol

Bought the bars pre-drilled and did the wiring myself. Took a while but was worth it in the long run.

Oh, and when you DO change out the bars, just remember, you're riding a whole new bike. You'll have to get
used to it all over again. Everything changes because of the changes in geometry.

flanders makes a bar they call the original ape hanger 12.5 hi 10" pullback 8.5 center width and 34.5" width. basiclly like the hd fxdwg dyna wide glide bar but great chrome nice bends and thicker id ti od. this is a great looking and comfortable bar and also available in black.the black happens too look great with chrome controls and risors we did a set with smaller mirrors hanging down looked great. check these out at http://www.eaglemotorcycle.com/ClassicBendsNew2.asp if i ever can help call anytime.
