Default Need Help With The Vocabulary

I feel like an idiot. OK, hold your comments right there. Exactly what is a "Thunderheader"? And furthermore, what is a "Power Commander"? And do I need one or both of these at some point? I'm takin' a big risk here, so take it easy on me.

A Thunderheader is an aftermarket exhaust system designed to increase performance. My son had on on a 92 FXR, and my opinion is that while they make great power, they are loud and obnoxious. His would set off car alarms in parking lots. There are other exhaust systems that make just as much power without the noise.

A Power Commander is an aftermarket fuel tuning system for Fuel Injected engines that is designed to improve performance, especially when you go to performance exhaust and intake systems like the Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner kit and free flowing exhaust.

You DO NOT need either of these items, your bike will run just fine stock. If you plan on performance upgrades, then you will eventually be looking at exhaust systems, and intake systems, but it does not have to be Thunderheader and Power Commander. There are other components on the market that are just as good.

If you have a carburated bike, a Power Commander is not even an option. Instead, you will need to do some jet work on the carb.

Looking at your signature, it appears that you have already done the upgrades that you would get with a Thunderheader, and Power Commander. You have SE Exhaust, and a Dynojet kit. The SE pipes are just about as good as a Thunderheader, and the Dynojet kit has done to your Carb. what a Power Commander would do to Fuel Injection.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bill
