Done 145 on a Buell. Wind at my back helped. Been upwards of 110 on the Low Rider I had. EVO 80 stage one. Haven't tried it with the softail. Been close to 100.
+1 with Citoriplus. Secondly, only ONE time have I "pushed" my new bike and it was 90mph in 5th. I don't dig speed at all, but my bud's 88" went around me one day, so I took it back. I was just being a Richard Craneum.

I got my stock 07 deluxe up to 115mph in 6th. It didn't feel wound out but it wouldn't pull anymore either (the road was slightly upgrade). I think it might actually have a higher top speed in 5th gear I'll have to investigate it some time when I find a straight stretch of highway with no traffic.
I know its not the same year, but my 07 heritage classic will over 100 mph completely stock. It will go faster, but it takes a long time to get there after about 90/95. must be time to bump it up 110 inches!!!
I have a mate which got his 07 dyna up to bout 80mph last October and was pretty pleased ... he then discovered that the bike had a 5th and 6th gear . True story. his first ever bike and I keep the hell away from him when we ride ( he finds it difficult making right hand turns but that is another story ! )
I've hit 100 twice now, first time was after I passed the 1000 mile mark(sure was hard to wait that long). Shifted out of 4th at 90 and thought I was really doing something until my friend on his M109R blew by me like I was sitting still. Don't know what top speed would be, figured about 130 would be realistic though. Even though my friends bike is considerably faster, I get more looks and compliments on my bike whenever we stop somewhere(I love that part).
Dont know about a 97, but the dyno tech took my 08 RockerC to a 168 miles per hour on the dyno. And thats the only time my bike will ever see those speeds.

I got my old Buell X1 up to 130ish so probably 120 in actual mph. My helmet produced lift and started to come up : ( If that bike hadn't been in the shop all the time I would still have it. It'd set off car alarms everywhere.
It's not the top speed of sportbikes that I miss but the brakes. I spent the first 3 months that I switched to the Roadstar praying that I would stop : )
