I know the issue of the oil draining down overtime in softails has been discussed here A LOT. And as some of you may remeber I travel for work and sometimes my bike sits fora month in the garage. Well, over the course of a couple weeks the oil drains down into the engine to the point that it doesn't register on the dipstick. As soon as I start the bike the oil tank refills and all is well. I have check with my dealer and read several posts on here that this is pretty normal and most softails drain down, just at different rates depending on age, etc.
My question is this:at the split second that I start the bike (after the oil has drained down) is there a concern of excess engine wear or damage before the oil level returns?
I think the answer is NO b/c the oil is already in the engine, and the tank is just a holding place for the excess oil, but just wanted to get you guys thoughts. Sorry for th long post. I guess, not seeing oil on the dipstick still makes me paranoid.
FYI: No leaks or anything, so oil loss or consumption is not a concern.
Should not be a problem at all. But, I'd make sure I use a fully synthetic oil as it is my opinion that it coats the moving parts better than dino oil.
Thanks, already using Amsoil products in all three holes. I guess my dad just pounded the whole "check the oil" thing into my head as a kid. So a dry dipstick kinda spooks me.
