Also, where in the hell is the connector for the gas gauge. It says look at figure 117 or something on tank removal but that connector lookd like every other connector on the darn bike. I cant get the tank far enough back to take off connector for gas gauge and cannot remove tank till I get gauge disconnected. Do I just pull gauge outta tank and cut the frickin wires? The reason tank comes off I think is because the harness connectors for handlebars are I think in the underside tunnel of tank just far enough back so you absolutely have to remove tank.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.
Its tucked away in the harness a little. I had to lift the tank up and get in there to search around for it. Once you see it it has enough slack so you can disconnect it.

Just did my bars and the longest part was getting the Kury flamed throttle to operate smoothly. I sanded the chrome off the bar end and honed the plastic throttle housing.

Missing the point with switch kit. Why replace perfectly good switch assemblies with new ones at $160? worse case, you can purchase the novello kit for $49.

mojojones, did you find it easier to just empty and remove the gas tank, than trying to slide it back or lift it up enought to get at connectors?

Well I did it but it took a while. I suppose everything that could go wrong went wrong.

Trouble with the Deutsch or Molex connectors (ones for r/l handlebar harness), lost a throttle brass bushing, Bad connector for signals, and such. All those problems took up about5 hours solving them. Worst was the connectors. I tried inserting a saftey pin, large dia sewing needle, pick device, nothing worked all the time. A connector with 8 wires, left harness, got 6 of 8 out, could not for the life of me get the other 2. It became a frick it momentso......... cut and splice. Went pretty smooth after that. My connectors were the "pin" side vs socket side (that I had to remove wires/pins from) as depicted in thread referenced by Ron above.

It seems the pins would be easy to remove if you had the right tool and knew exactly what was going on inside that damn connector, at least that is how my brain works. Ones that came out it was just push the pin in and wire came out real easy. Others, no matter what you did they would not come out. It was really trying on the ole patience though. Anyway, over and done. Just need to change to sst cables, grips, signals/driving lightsand mirrors and I'm happy.

Pic of what I got so far. Sig is of stk fatty bars, other are the 503's (knuckle bars).

Nice job. They look sweet on the fatboy... Its always rewarding when it is finally done. If we don't make mistakes ( or as I say, slight error in judgement) we never learn. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
