I'd try something unique and extraordinary like going in and saying to the salesman...hey I want this bike...but I am not paying more than MSRP.

I know, I know....I should write a book on tough negotiating.

You could try any of the above ideas and spend 1k dollars in gase trying to save 500 over the next 3 weeksor you could do my suggestion and probably ride your bike home today.

Okay here's what I did.

Go to the dealer you want to buy from (probably the closet to you) get a price.
Then go to several dealers and get an out the door price from several dealers hopefully one your local dealer hates,
tell them where your from and who you talking to and get their price in writting
then take it back to your dealer
and if he hates them the way he hated the dealership I went to, he'll match their price.

It saved me $300.
That's they way my Bro's have done it, and I will this spring.

There are 15 dealerships within 100 miles of me. Won't be hard to get a good price, with extras.

I bought my 07 Fat Boy with HD security system for $15,500 the last week of Septembet, I beleive it was somewhere around $2600 off MSRP. I did pay freight of $300 something, but no setup. Dealers can get more 08 models if they do not have remaining 07's.

i would say at this time you should be able to buy below msrp but if your after one of there hottest bikes like say the rocker forget it you may be paying above msrp. When the deluxe came out in late 04 they were getting 1500 above msrp at some of the local dealers. best deals are on the bikes that are not selling they want to get rid of them. I paid msrp for my deluxe this was when most dealers were getting 1500 above as the bike became more available the price then was back to msrp or below. the off season will often get you a better deal also

That'swhat happened to me.

I live8 miles from my dealer and he was selling at MSRP plus $800 setup.
I went to another dealer 75 miles from me and he was at selling at MSRP plus $450 setup.

I took the offer sheetback to my home town dealer and showed him the other guys offer and said if he'd match it I'b buy here. So he did.
Of course my home town guy, didn't know I only lived 8 miles from the dealership.

Plus it seems my home town dealership puts on about 2 grand worth of stuff like grips, boards or pegs, mirrors, cover, ect, ect, on all the bikes on their showroom floor and I bought a bike that wasn't delivered yet, so I saved paying for all that stuff I didn't want.

buyingat the end of the model year seems to be the way to go. got my '07 deluxe on 7/31/07 just when the '08s were hitting the floor. paid $1500 under MSRP, no freight, no setup. salesman quoted me price, didn't realize that it had the upgrade wheels (profile laced, $450)andthe security system ($325). sales manager threw that in also.

bottom line: don't be afraid to try and low-ball. you have the buying power now. wifey says i embarrass her (when? when i'm down on my knees begging and whining? J.K.) hey, its my money. if i don't like the deal, i walk.

just my .02

Default RE: Paying MSRP

I got screwed but it was entirely my fault. First dealership I visited, just looking around. Didn't know what I wanted, didn't know what MSRP was on any of the bikes.. Didn't walk out when that little voice told me too. Another mistake was taking my wife with me. She fell in love withTHE bike and didn't help with my sales resistance. Shejust wanted me to be happy. I got her number now. Seems she always does that chit when she has her own eyes on a big frivolous purchase. Sure enough two weeks later, she wants to buy a freaking $2500 bird. How can I say no, right?

Anyway, the Harley went on the credit card because I never expected to buy one. Biggest single reason people get screwed IMO is that they fall in love with a particular ride thinking it's the only one like it in the world. We're our own biggest enemy. The stealer will take advantage of any weakness. Seems most are satisfied with making the quick sale and don't look at you as a repeat customer or referral.

I tried the "here's the price from XYZ Dealer" can you beat it?.... seems that they were both owned by the same guy..... NO - they weren't even gonna try... MSRP or nothing.

so - MSRP later, I'm riding out the door.
